What are the symptoms of pre-menstrual-syndrome?

TENSION -

Pre-menstrual tension is the tension which occurs in the pre-menstrual-syndrome, it has three parts to it: depression, tiredness and irritability. These three parts are always present in pre-menstrual tension although one of them may be more obvious than others but only temporarily so.

DEPRESSION - The depression may be so mild that the actual word is not used or is even denied. However, the woman may admit to feeling fed up, down in the dumps, that she can't laugh easily and has difficulty in smiling, or that the whole world is against her but nobody cares or even the ever-present possibility of suicide.

TIREDNESS - What worried some women most is that they go slow and stupid before their periods, and many find the lethargy, exhaustion and prostration so difficult to cope with during the premenstrium. The "can't-be-bothered" attitude takes over and disrupts the program for the day until in the end "everything goes".

IRRITABILITY - It is those who are nearest to a sufferer of pre-menstrual irritability that suffer most. Pre-menstrual irritability is commoner in the married woman, and the husband naturally has problems trying to calm a supersensitive, edgy, irrational and agitated woman during these days of each cycle. At the height of the tension there may be true confusion so that the woman is unaware of her actions or surroundings. Indeed she may bitterly refute any actions, for she has no memory of it.
