She was very unco-ordinated and clumsy as a toddler, in preschool she was lacking in social skills and didn't make friends very well, she didn't go through the usual stages that young 3 or 4 year old do. Her speech was very mono-tone. This continued all through her primary and High School years. When she reach year 10 she became very non-social, she would hang with her gang but always to the side by herself. She became very selective about certain foods she would eat and always collected catalogues. She knew the TV week off by heart and was excellent at number puzzles. There were other signs so I took her to a specialist who diagnosed her as late teenage onset Autism. She always had Autism but it became more evident in her late teenage years. She is 21 now and is very conditioned in her ways she does everything on a daily basis. Everything is done exactly the same way at the same time every day and she gets very stressed if her routine is changed. She doesn't like change at all. I am finding each day is very challenging. But don't be alarmed. There is help for those with this condition. They just have to be willing to try something different which is a challenge in itself.
